How the estimate works

What goes into the number.

We start from a per-linear-metre Colorbond rate and scale by length, material, and ground conditions. Gates and automation are added as flat amounts.

  • Total length in linear metres.
  • Material — brick and glass are several times the cost of standard Colorbond.
  • Ground conditions — rock or steep slopes increase post-hole cost.
  • Whether the old fence needs removal and disposal.
  • Gates and automation.

Frequently asked questions

Who pays for a dividing fence?

In most Australian states, the cost of a standard dividing fence is shared 50/50 with the neighbour. Premium upgrades are generally paid by whichever owner wants them.

Is pool fencing different?

Pool fencing must meet the Australian Standard AS 1926.1. Heights, gaps and gate latches are strictly regulated and council inspections are required.
