Which parts of the job need licensed trades?
Plumbing and electrical work must be done by licensed trades everywhere in Australia. Laundries are wet areas, so waterproofing also has to meet the Australian Standard, and in most states it must be carried out or certified by a licensed applicator. Keep the compliance certificates at handover, as you'll need them for insurance and resale.
What's usually included in a laundry renovation quote?
Most quotes cover demolition and disposal, plumbing and electrical rough-in, waterproofing, tiling, cabinetry, benchtop and fixture installation. Appliances, painting and door hardware are often excluded or listed as owner-supplied, so confirm exactly where the quote stops. Ask each builder to itemise inclusions so you can compare quotes like for like.
Does moving the plumbing add much to the cost?
Yes. Keeping the sink, taps and washing machine connections where they are is the single biggest way to control cost. Relocating them means new drainage falls, opening walls or floors, and waterproofing again, which adds significant cost for little visible change. Spend the difference on cabinetry and a better benchtop instead.
